Muwawa 27cm shallow ‘cherry’ bowl

muwawa cherry bowl

Item Sold

Piece No: 357

Khaya nyassica

‘red mahogany

local name – ‘muwawa’

Found on the Luawata River, a seasonal tributary of the main Luangwa River.

This is one of quite a few of the ‘Luawata’ bowls. Muwawa has a striking red colour and very defined, beautiful grain. Andrew made this ‘cherry’ bowl with the in-turned edges – slightly reminiscent of a gourd shape. It is very decorative – a really sweet bowl – you can’t help picking it up and touching it. I will struggle to part with this one!
